About Fiona

"A bold, striking voice reminiscent of an early Polly Stenham" - The Bush Theatre

Hello,

It’s lovely to meet you. My name’s Fiona and I’m a writer, theatre maker and participatory artist based in Glasgow. I also organise, run and evaluate creative and cultural events, including large scale conferences, festivals and tours, with a particular emphasis on accessibility by design.

All of my work is centred around stories and approaches to storytelling. I’m curious about who gets to tell stories, which stories prevail and what can happen if important stories don’t get told. My work is interdisciplinary, and often sits across theatre, literature and community artivism/change making. As participatory practitioner, I work with early experience artists, using trauma competent approaches and exploring the power of theatre as resilience building, and stories for social change. I’ve collaborated with artists from 0-95 in professional, educational and community settings, using creativity to help people explore their individual and collective identities, ask important questions or provide innovative solutions to problems. My specialist areas of focus are creating theatrical new writing, theatre for, by and with young people, and writing inspired by a variety of lived experience

In my theatre work, I'm excited by new writing weaves the socio-political, with audience interaction and gamified approaches, and by the use of comedy and sensory play to build audience/performer relationships and challange traditional theatre rules. I love theatre is whimsical, inspired by landscape and folklore, and that evokes a sense of awe and wonder, and often use multi-artform stimulus and ensemble devising methods to create work. In my community and literary work, I’m particularly interested in fragmented stories, archival silence, or stories that are at risk of being lost. Themes of hope, chaos, un/wellness, the natural world, and the link between childhood and the self are all evident in my work.

My artistic practice is shaped by my experience as a late diagnosed neurodivergent person, with lived experience of survivorship, long term health conditions and complex trauma. On weekends, you will often find me curled up with a book, or exploring Scotlands woods and lochs in my campervan.
